Want to land knockout punches effortlessly? This one simple setup will pay you 100x forward, guaranteed.

It's the ultimate key to landing any power shot.

And it never fails.

The secret? A JAB.

If you've been in this game long enough then you know the jab's power.

So why aren't you drilling it nonstop?

Here's a drill to you can start using to land any power shot at will.

Let me break it down for you.

Video Breakdown

The Drill Breakdown

The four power shots we'll focus on are:

  • Cross
  • Overhand
  • Rear uppercut
  • Rear hook

Since I'm using the wrecking ball rounded bag, I'll only be throwing these punches to the head.

And for jabs, it'll be either the pawning jab or the snapping jab, followed by one of the four power shots.

Here's how the drill works:

  • 5 rounds on the bag, each lasting 2 or 3 minutes.
  • 1 minute break between each round.
  • For every single power shot you throw, always throw a jab first.
  • Never throw any other shot unless you throw a jab before it.
  • The strikes that follow the jab must be one of the four power shots: cross, overhand, rear uppercut, or rear hook - nothing else.
  • For this drill, DO NOT throw a single power shot by itself; you always have to throw a jab first, whether it's a double jab, single jab, pawing jab, or snapping jab. It doesn't matter which jab you use, just always throw a jab before delivering any of those power shots.

The five rounds are structured as follows:

  • Round 1: Jab followed by Cross
  • Round 2: Jab followed by Overhand
  • Round 3: Jab followed by Rear Uppercut
  • Round 4: Jab followed by Rear Hook
  • Round 5: Freestyle round, combining any of the four different combinations (jab-cross, jab-overhand, jab-rear uppercut, jab-rear hook) in any order you want, throwing whatever you visualize in the moment, but always throwing a jab first.

If you want to double up, you can do 10 rounds - 2 rounds for each of the strikes, and then the last two rounds are freestyle rounds. This allows you to put in a lot of repetitions, rounds, and minutes on the bag, focused on nothing else but using your jabs to set up your 4 power shots.

Integrating Footwork

As a bonus, you can begin to utilize your footwork.

Use footwork to get in range, deliver your strikes, and get out.

This can be a forward shuffle, backward shuffle, forward shuffle and pivot, or a side step shuffle to get range and execute your jab-cross or any other combination you're going to throw.

This way, you're not just a stationary target; you're moving, gauging distance, getting in range, throwing then getting out or repositioning.

Jab Out

For intermediate and advanced guys, you can add another layer by throwing a jab after your power shot as you move out.

Use your jab to set up your power shot, and then as you finish, use your jab to disrupt their counters on the way out. This is a more advanced layer on top than just throwing your jabs, crosses, and hooks and stepping out.
